Route
From Maidstone, the cleanest route is west on the M20, anti-clockwise round the M25, then south on the A24 to Epsom Downs. Driver factors in race-day traffic on approach.
Maidstone → A26/A20 → M20 J6 westbound → M25 J3 anti-clockwise → M25 J9 → A24 south → Ashtead → Epsom → Epsom Downs racecourse. Approximately 50 miles, typically 1h15m–1h30m off-peak.
For Derby Day and Oaks, traffic on the A24/B280 corridor near Epsom Downs can be heavy from late morning. Driver may take alternative back-road approaches via Banstead or Tattenham Corner — local knowledge avoids the worst queues. Allow 1h45m–2h for major race days.
