Cambridge sits 60 miles north of London in Cambridgeshire and is best known for the University of Cambridge, founded in 1209 and made up of 31 autonomous colleges scattered across the city centre and its edges. Beyond the university, Cambridge is one of Europe’s densest technology and life-sciences clusters — the Cambridge Science Park, Granta Park, the Babraham Research Campus and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (home to Addenbrooke’s Hospital) draw business and academic visitors from around the world all year round.
The Heathrow to Cambridge transfer is dominated by four passenger types: students and their families arriving for the start of term or graduation; academics and conference delegates; life-sciences and technology business travellers heading to the research parks; and patients or families travelling to Addenbrooke’s. Each has different requirements — a student arrival usually means maximum luggage, a conference delegate usually means a tight schedule, and a hospital journey usually means door-to-entrance precision.
Get London Transfer runs fixed-price chauffeur transfers on this route with drivers who know Cambridge itself, not just the motorway. The city centre is heavily restricted: much of the historic core is pedestrianised or bus-gated, several colleges have no vehicle access at all from the main street, and the residential streets around Newnham, Chesterton and Mill Road are narrow with permit parking. Our drivers know which colleges have a porters’ lodge you can pull up to, which require a short walk from the nearest legal drop-off, and how to reach the Science Park and Biomedical Campus without crossing the congested centre.
The journey itself is 75 miles and runs Heathrow → M25 anticlockwise → M11 north → Cambridge. It is a straightforward route in light traffic and a slow one at peak, with the M25 section between the M4 and the M11 being the single biggest variable.
75 miles Heathrow LHR to Cambridge city centre via M25 anticlockwise → M11 north (J14). Science Park and north Cambridge destinations exit at M11 J14; Addenbrooke’s and south Cambridge exit at J11.
90–105 minutes light traffic (late evening, early Sunday). 105–130 minutes moderate daytime traffic. 130–160 minutes peak — weekday 07:00–09:30 and 16:00–19:00, when the M25 Heathrow–M11 section is the bottleneck.
£155 Mercedes E-Class (up to 4 passengers). Options: £190 MPV 6-seater, £225 minibus 8-seater, £275 S-Class VIP. Price is the same to any Cambridge address — colleges, Science Park, Addenbrooke’s or residential.
24/7, 365 days a year including Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year. No night surcharge, no holiday surcharge, no weekend surcharge.
Book online at getlondontransfer.com/booking or call 020 8888 9988. Give us your airline, flight number and the exact Cambridge destination — college name, department, ward, or full postcode. For colleges, tell us if you need the porters’ lodge or a specific staircase entrance. Confirmation SMS with the fixed price and driver details arrives within 5 minutes.
Dispatch monitors your inbound flight on live ATC data — actual departure, en-route delays, actual landing, taxi-to-stand. The driver is dispatched against your real landing time, not the schedule. You do not need to call us about a delay; the system handles it and the price does not change.
Disembark → immigration → baggage reclaim → arrivals hall. Your driver waits in the public meeting area with a name board. Meet points: T2 central arrivals near Costa opposite the lifts; T3 central exit opposite WHSmith; T4 dedicated meet-and-greet area, south side; T5 central exit by Costa. Driver takes the luggage and walks you to the pre-booked pickup zone, typically 30–90 seconds from the terminal exit.
Vehicle leaves via the M4 spur onto the M25 anticlockwise. Climate control, USB-A/USB-C/Lightning charging, complimentary water and quiet motorway ride quality from the outset. Most passengers arriving on a long-haul flight sleep for this leg — the driver will not make conversation unless you want it.
Heathrow → M25 J15 (10 min) → M25 anticlockwise past the A1(M) and the Dartford-side junctions (35–60 min, the most traffic-sensitive section) → M11 J6 northbound (5 min) → M11 north through Harlow and Stansted (30–40 min) → Cambridge exits. If the M25 is stalled the driver may route via the A10 or A505 as an alternative — you are on a fixed price, so a longer route never costs you more.
M11 J11 for Addenbrooke’s, the Biomedical Campus and south Cambridge; J12 for the west colleges and the Backs; J13/J14 for the Science Park, north Cambridge and Chesterton. Driver delivers to the closest legal point to your door and helps with luggage. Where the centre is bus-gated or pedestrianised, the driver will explain the short final walk before you set off, not after you arrive.

The colleges. We serve all 31 colleges. Access varies considerably. Colleges on the Backs and in the historic centre — Trinity, St John’s, King’s, Clare, Queens’, Corpus Christi, Gonville & Caius — sit inside restricted streets where vehicle access is limited or bus-gated; the driver will take you to the nearest legal drop-off, usually a short walk from the porters’ lodge, and carry your luggage to that point. Colleges further out — Churchill, Fitzwilliam, Girton, Homerton, Robinson, Selwyn, Wolfson, Murray Edwards — generally have proper vehicle entrances and a lodge you can pull up to directly. Tell us the college at booking and the driver will plan the approach in advance.
Cambridge Science Park and the research campuses. The Science Park sits on Milton Road in the north of the city, reached from M11 J14 or the A14 without going near the centre. Granta Park, Babraham Research Campus and the Wellcome Genome Campus at Hinxton are all south of the city and reached from M11 J10 or J11 — these are frequently faster to reach than the city centre itself. Give us the building or company name and we will drop at the correct entrance rather than the site gate.
Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Reached from M11 J11 on the south side, avoiding the centre entirely. We drop at the main concourse entrance or at a specific outpatient or ward entrance if you tell us which one at booking. For patients travelling for treatment, tell dispatch and we will allocate a vehicle with easier step-in height and allow extra unhurried time at both ends.
Stations and city addresses. Cambridge Station, Cambridge North Station, hotels, and private residential addresses across Newnham, Chesterton, Mill Road, Cherry Hinton and the villages. Residential streets in the older parts of the city are narrow with permit-only parking; the driver will get as close as is legal and safe.
Start of Michaelmas term (late September / early October) is the single busiest period on this route. Thousands of students arrive within a few days, most with a full year’s luggage, and demand for MPVs and minibuses far exceeds normal levels. Book 2–3 weeks ahead if you can, and book the larger vehicle — a family that assumes an E-Class will do usually discovers at Heathrow that it will not.
End of term (early December, mid-March, mid-June) produces the same surge in the opposite direction, with the added complication that many departures are early-morning to catch long-haul flights. Pickups from Cambridge before 06:00 are common in these weeks and are charged at the same fixed price as any other time.
Graduation days bring families arriving from overseas, often 4–8 people per party, frequently wanting a single vehicle so everyone travels together. The 8-seater minibus is the usual answer. Graduation dates cluster and vehicles go quickly — book as soon as the date is confirmed.
Conference season runs heavily through the summer, when colleges let their rooms to conference delegates. Delegates typically arrive individually on tight schedules, and the E-Class or S-Class is the usual choice. Multi-leg bookings (arrival, mid-stay transfers, departure) can be coordinated as a single reservation with the same driver where practical.
25 years TfL licensed. Get London Transfer has held a Transport for London Private Hire Operator licence continuously since 2000 — the UK regulatory standard for private hire in London. We are not a rideshare aggregator and not an unlicensed operator.
Drivers who know Cambridge, not just the M11. Anyone can follow a motorway. The value on this route is at the Cambridge end: knowing that a given college has no vehicle access from the main street, that the Science Park is reached without touching the centre, that Addenbrooke’s is a J11 job. Our Cambridge rota drivers have made this run repeatedly and plan the final mile before they set off.
Student luggage is the normal case, not an exception. A first-year arrival is typically two large cases, a cabin bag, bedding and a box or two. We size the vehicle from what you tell us at booking rather than hoping it fits, and the driver loads and unloads it all.
Flight tracking is automatic. Dispatch watches your inbound flight on live ATC data and moves the driver to your real landing time. Normal aviation delays cost you nothing and we hold up to 60 minutes after actual landing at no charge, which covers immigration and baggage.
Fixed price to any Cambridge address. £155 in the E-Class whether you are going to a college on the Backs, the Science Park, Addenbrooke’s or a village address on the edge of the city. No meter, no surge, no night rate, no weekend rate, no holiday rate. Fuel, tolls, parking and waiting are all inside the quoted price.
UK-based dispatch, 24/7. 020 8888 9988 reaches a UK controller at any hour, not an overseas call centre. Your driver’s direct mobile number is sent by SMS two hours before pickup so you can reach them without going through us at all.
