Uber 20% VAT Change 2026 — What It Means for You
Since 2 January 2026, Uber operates under the PHVO (Private Hire Vehicle Operator) principal model in the UK. Under this model, Uber is legally the supplier of the ride — not just a platform connecting you to a driver. This means Uber must charge 20% VAT on all UK fares, and pass it on to passengers.
| Journey | Old Uber Fare | New Fare with VAT | Fixed Alternative |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heathrow to central London | ~£50 | ~£60+ | £55 fixed |
| Gatwick to central London | ~£52 | ~£62+ | £59 fixed |
| Stansted to central London | ~£58 | ~£70+ | £65 fixed |
| Manchester Airport to city | ~£25 | ~£30+ | £35 fixed |
All GetLondonTransfer fares include VAT. The price at booking is the total you pay. Off-peak, some Uber journeys are still cheaper than our fixed fares. But once VAT is included and surge is factored in, the gap narrows or reverses — particularly for airport transfers.
Fixed Price. No Surge. No Surprises.
